Fridays

Friday, the end of another busy week working as an EA both in a kindy 2 1/2 days and the other 2 1/2 days in a Yr1 / PP class. It’s never dull and you never quite know what to expect, well mostly because you are dealing with children who change like the wind. I love my job and although sometimes the days are tough and there are bad moments, I wouldn’t change it for anything else in the world. At times the good out weighs the bad, I get to be creative and encourage a new generation of children to do the same, it’s never about me, the focus is always the children and what I can show or teach them today.

There is nothing more rewarding than a smile or high five when they finally tackle a tricky word in reading or write a sentence by themselves. Its having these children believe in themselves when often they come from home lives that aren’t exactly encouraging or safe sometimes.

I was on Recess duty today in the PP/K area and loved seeing one of my former Kindy students running around the playground screaming with laughter as he was chased by his three best friends. This was a child when I first meet him in Kindy last year hardly said boo or anything else for that matter. It was so rewarding for me to see him so happy and enjoying himself at school now full time Pre-Primary. I love nurturing that spirit and seeing them, become little human beings with so much spunk and character.

There is another little girl who holds my hand the entire recess and follows me like my little shadow. It kinda makes me feel like a mother duck being followed by all her ducklings. You are never lonely on duty and often have children wanting you see them do all sorts of things from handstands and building sandcastles in the sand pit. I often hear my name being called out from one side of the school to the other.

I love the conversations you can have with children and I love the way they live in the moment. They are very forgiving and it’s very hard not to get attached to them. I believe I am blessed to work with them every day .
