There is nothing sweeter in life than a cup of tea, don’t get me wrong I love a good coffee as well, preferably a chai latte, but nothing says good morning to me than a cup of hot tea. It’s not just the drinking of it, usually as the world is waking up. It’s the whole ritual of making it that soothing to my soul and gently wakes me up to greet the new day. I am not a morning person, but with my cup of tea I can certainly bare it more.
I think my tea drinking days really became more apparent, when I went to live and work in the U.K. There of course tea is probably the nation drink, maybe beer a close second. I loved the tearooms they had and used to spend hours in them drinking tea and writing or reading, quite pleasantly. They were rather quaint places usually on the high street of any village, I even took the two children I nannied to them as well.
My morning in England would be to put the kettle on, empty the dishwasher and then sit on the back step and enjoy my streaming cup of tea, looking up at the lightening sky. It was my time to think and welcome the new day, I even got up extra early just to enjoy this little moment. My ritual of making the tea was slow and almost an Zen experience you could say. My mediation time, where all else disappears and my focus entirely was on that cup of tea.
I even got to witness and enjoy a proper tea ceremony, in Spain of all places. We went too a Chinese restaurant there and ordered after our meal tea, it was heavenly and enjoyable to watch. It was nothing like the way I make my tea ? It also was silent and giving thanks to the tea as well to the young lady making it. It was slipped and savoured, never hurried or wasted, a truly special experience and one I have never forgotten. At the moment tea appears to becoming popular once more here in Australia. It’s antioxidants qualities have been celebrated by everyone. Especially green tea which is one of my favourite teas to drink.
I couldn’t help myself, to finding and including a few chosen quotes about tea. To me tea goes hand in hand with reading and spending time daydreaming while looking out the window. A time to reflect about everything and nothing at all.
